The Locked Tomb is a series I went into a bit skeptical but needless to say I came out the other end a huge fan. It really is what got me back into reading fiction after I had it recommended to me by a friend, and I truly am so glad I gave it a chance. Gideon the Ninth is such an incredibly fun and simultaniously heartbreaking book, i've reread it maybe 4 times by now if we're including the audiobook (Which is also great, I highly recommend it. Moira Quirk does an amazing job). I recently tried my hand at annotating it, and I think it turned out pretty good. It was a blast honestly, I know people say that overtabbing makes the key lose meaning ... but I disagree! I'm showing my love! Maybe I just want to flip to a random tabbed page and see a silly Harrow line...u dont know me...

So many details in the book are worth remembering for me, I love how it's just filled to the brim with foreshadowing and interesting moments and literary references that I hadn't caught the first time. I'm totally fascinated by the paralells between Gideon the Ninth and Don Quixote, for example. Ever since I first saw someone bring it up it hasn't left my mind. It's such a seemingly small thing, but adds so much to the experience and understanding of the themes, I think. 3 cheers for tomb meta lol. Anyway, The Locked Tomb really is a series that rewards you the more you reread it in my opinion, and Gideon is absolutely no exception to that. You are kind of expected to have a love affair with these books. Something about Gideon the Ninth that I of course love is Gideon herself... It took me a little bit to warm up to her but once I did she quickly became one of my favorite characters maybe ever. It's really refreshing to see an unapolagetically butch lesbian character in media, especially one thats portrayed with respect and is fully fleshed out. It is always fun to see Cool Dykes.

Here's some of my annotations! I will be the first to admit that my handwriting is not great. In fact it is quite bad . Perhaps some day i'll come back and redo them, maybe also trim the fat of some tabs, but i'm overall still pretty happy with how they came out. Annotations typically range from a bit of analysis to me just goofing off and taking note of things I like. Fun times.

I also own the illumicrate special edition of Gideon the Ninth! Heres a quick pic + the art inside the reversible dustjacket by Naomistares.
